It has taken me a while to find my purpose in life. And although it keeps changing, I now have something I am truly passionate about. Something that makes me jump out of bed and be excited for the day ahead. There are many tools we can learn to truly live the life of our dreams and I will happily give you some tips if you send me a message, but for now this is something that has helped me find a purpse worth fighting for.
My journey to my purpose in life
I come from a very small family from Czech Republic. At the age of 8, my mom and stepdad decided to move to Ireland. I started school there without a word of English. Within 3 years I started being good enough to keep up in class, but lost 3 years of education in the process. I was the first person out of my family to go to University. The first person out of my secondary school to ever go to an International University after everyone told me I wont get the grades to get in. Well guess what? I did! I worked hard and I got into a University in the UK to study Psychology. By my final year I was working more than studying to be able to afford to stay at University, I had no social life, I worked and I studied. For me University meant lots of stress, fear, hard work with few fun memories, but I walked out with a CV 3 pages long of experience and walked straight into a job because of it. I worked with kids with emotional and behavioural needs, then worked in an office for a social integration charity, deciding to qualify as a Hypnotherapist to start my own business so I can do my hobbie as a Latin Dancer more seriously and help people. My journey was easy compare to many others, but like everyone I had my struggles where I had to choose to fight and keep going rather than give up. We all have those in life. But challenges are a gift. We learn from them, we grow and we keep going. We become who we need to be to be successful.
I have later decided I am fed up of being in a 9-5 job, of being paid 10% of what I am worth, to be working myself to the ground yet be paid the same as someone that may be doing nothing just because they are in the same position as me. To be told what to do and how to do it like a 5 year old. To let someone else decide if I am worth a raise or not, or when I can or can’t go on holiday. I wanted to be in charge of my own schedule, of my own raises, my own successes and my own life. I am now working towards achieving all of my dreams. I want to inspire people worldwide to truly live the life of their dreams. Not just the dreams of the now, but to help them explode their vision to what they never thought possible. I want to have a beautiful family with kids. I want to be there for my children, be there at each play, each football game, be next to the bed when my kids are sick, take them on holiday and so much more. I want to be a part of their life and not be limited by a job that doesnt allow me to do those things. I want to be able to travel the world before the age of 30 growing my business globally. I want to be a part of changing people’s lives, inspiring them, growing them and watching that journey unfold. There are so many things we are capable off and I am so excited for what the future holds. So please do spend some time to find out what your purpose in life is and do whatever it takes to achieve it. Because let me tell you something, it is so so worth it!
Defining your purpose
Before you start this, it helps to do some mediation to clear your mind. You will find the answers will come to you more easily and naturally rather than you consicously trying to create them, which is where your answers may be less sincere. You can try this guided mediation, just sit in silence or do any mediation you feel comfortable with.
Start by making a list of all the times you can remember in your life that have made you feel the most truly alive and joyful. I have added 3 bullet points in each, however you fill find with some you may have more than 20, so do get your notebook out and keep writting. The more you empty out of your mind onto paper, the more clear you will be in the end about your purpose.
The times I have felt most alive and joyful are:
Look at the list above and ask yourself what each of these experiences has in common and make a note of it. This common element is an indication of what brings joy into your life which in turn is an indication of your life purpose. Now, consider the following questions and make sure you write the answers in your notebook so you can reflect back and look at common themes. Once again you will find you will need more than 3 points in each, just keep going and empty your mind.
- What are your natural gifts?
- What are my skills and talents?
- What do I love to do?
- When do I feel the most alive?
- What am I passionate about?
- What brings me the greatest joy in life?
- When do I feel the best about myself?
- What are my personal strenghts and characteristics?
- What have others said I am really good at?
- How do I most enjoy interacting with other people?
- What would I change in the world if I could?
Now that you have answers those questions, try to condense these down into common themes. The following questions will help you achieve that.
- What are the common characteristics of your answers to all of these questions?
- What do these answers have in common with the list you made earlier? ____
- Take your answers from these questions and your list and summarise them into 2/3 sentences.
